A Chaos Space Marine has had ten thousand years to earn a name, and most of them have earned several. This generator builds names the way the Traitor Legions do: a given name in the Legion's old tongue, a war-name or title, a rank from the warband's hierarchy, and — more often than not — an epithet. "Chaos Lord Nekhar Duskheart, Herald of the Black Crusade" is the kind of thing it produces.
All nine Traitor Legions are covered — Black Legion, Word Bearers, Iron Warriors, Night Lords, World Eaters, Death Guard, Thousand Sons, Emperor's Children and Alpha Legion — plus the Red Corsairs for renegade warbands. How Each Legion Names Itself
The Legions were founded on different worlds and fell to different gods, and both show in their names:

Which god a Legion serves shapes its epithets more than anything else. A Khornate name is a threat; a Nurglite name is a diagnosis; a Tzeentchian name is a riddle; a Slaaneshi name is a boast. Ranks in a Warband
- Chaos Space Marine / Aspiring Champion. The line and the ambitious. Most of any warband.
- Chosen. Veterans marked by the gods, the Lord's inner circle.
- Chaos Lord / Warlord. The one who holds the warband together — by strength, fear or favour.
- Sorcerer, Dark Apostle, Warpsmith, Master of Possession. Specialists: the warp, the word, the machine, the daemon.
- Terminator Champion. Cataphractii and Tartaros plate, ten thousand years old, still walking.
Using Epithets Well
Loyalist honours are given. Chaos epithets are taken. "The Betrayer", "the Ever-Rotting", "Master of Lies" — each one is a claim, and someone in the warband probably disputes it. When the generator hands you an epithet, ask who gave it, whether it is meant as praise, and what the Marine did to deserve it. That is usually the whole character.
Building a warband for a campaign? Generate a Chaos Lord, two or three Chosen and a Sorcerer or Apostle, then fill the ranks with Aspiring Champions and line Marines.
