Elf Name Generator
Flowing, melodic names inspired by Tolkien and D&D elven cultures
Like a name? Save it as a real character.

Elvish names should sound like they belong in an ancient language — melodic, flowing, and slightly otherworldly. This generator produces names that follow traditional elvish phonetic patterns: soft consonants, long vowels, and the kind of elegant rhythm that suggests centuries of refined culture.
Whether you're naming a high elf wizard, a wood elf ranger, or a drow rogue, these names fit the aesthetic. Filter by gender or generate a mixed batch. Need other races? Try our D&D Name Generator or Dwarf Name Generator.

Elvish Naming Conventions
In most fantasy settings, elvish names draw from linguistic traditions established by Tolkien's Sindarin and Quenya languages. They tend to follow specific patterns:
- Syllable structure — Most elvish names have 2-4 syllables with emphasis on vowels. Consonant clusters are rare; when they appear, they're soft (th, lh, dh).
- Nature references — Many elvish names reference stars (el-, gal-), trees (-wen, -dor), moonlight (ithil-), or water (nen-).
- Gender patterns — Male names often end in -on, -or, -iel. Female names often end in -wen, -riel, -iel, -a.
- Family names — Elvish family names frequently describe an ancestor's achievement or the family's homeland: "Galanodel" (moonwhisper), "Amakiir" (gemflower).
