Free online dice roller for D&D and any TTRPG. Roll d4–d20 and d100, build multi-dice pools, add modifiers, roll with advantage or disadvantage, and type full expressions like 2d6+3 or 4d6kh3.

A dice roller should be instant, honest, and out of your way. This one is: tap a die to add it to your pool, stack as many as you need, add a modifier, and roll. No app, no signup, no ads between you and the result — just clean virtual dice for D&D, Pathfinder, or any tabletop game.

Roll every standard die (d4, d6, d8, d10, d12, d20, d100), build mixed pools like 2d6 + 1d8, and add a positive or negative modifier. One-tap quick rolls cover the common cases: a straight d20, advantage, disadvantage, 4d6-drop-lowest for ability scores, and percentile. Need something specific? Type an expression — 2d6+3, 4d6kh3, 3d8-1, even 2d20kl1 for disadvantage — and the roller shows every die, with dropped dice struck through so the math is always transparent.

Your recent rolls are kept in a history log so you can glance back at the last hit. Pair the roller with our NPC Stat Block Generator for enemies to roll against and the Encounter Builder for the fight itself.

How to Use the Dice Roller

The roller has three ways to roll, from fastest to most flexible:

  • Tap dice to build a pool. Click d6 three times and you have 3d6; add a d8 and it becomes 3d6 + 1d8. A badge on each die shows how many you've stacked. Set a modifier with the − / + stepper, then hit Roll.
  • Quick rolls. One tap for a d20, Advantage (2d20 keep highest), Disadvantage (2d20 keep lowest), 4d6 drop lowest (ability scores), or percentile (d100). Your current modifier is applied automatically.
  • Type an expression. The expression box accepts standard dice notation — combine any number of dice groups and modifiers in one string.

Dice Notation the Roller Understands

Dice notation is the shorthand every VTT and character sheet uses. The roller parses the full grammar:

NotationMeaning
d20Roll one twenty-sided die
2d6Roll two six-sided dice and sum them
2d6+3Roll 2d6 and add a flat +3 modifier
4d6kh3Roll 4d6, keep the highest 3 (the classic ability score roll)
2d20kh1Roll 2d20, keep highest — advantage
2d20kl1Roll 2d20, keep lowest — disadvantage
1d8+2d4+2Combine multiple dice types and a modifier in one roll

The suffixes kh / kl (keep highest / lowest) and dh / dl (drop highest / lowest) let you model advantage, disadvantage, and stat arrays precisely. Every die that gets dropped is still shown in the result — struck through — so you can see exactly what was rolled and what counted.

Rolling with Advantage and Disadvantage

Advantage and disadvantage are the most common special rolls in 5e. The rule is simple: roll two d20 and take the better result (advantage) or the worse (disadvantage). Sources of advantage — being hidden, a Faerie Fire on the target, help from an ally — and disadvantage — being prone, poisoned, attacking at long range — cancel each other out one-for-one, so you're never rolling more than two d20 regardless of how many apply.

Use the one-tap Advantage / Disadvantage buttons, and add your attack or check modifier with the stepper first so it's included. The result shows both d20 with the unused one struck through.

Rolling Ability Scores (4d6 Drop Lowest)

The standard method for generating a D&D character's ability scores is 4d6, drop the lowest die, repeated six times. It skews results a little higher than 3d6 and produces the heroic-but-varied spread 5e expects. Tap the "4d6 drop lowest" quick roll six times — the dropped die is struck through each time, and the surviving three are summed for that ability. Assign the six results to Strength, Dexterity, Constitution, Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma however your build wants.

Once you have the numbers, turn them into a character: our D&D Name Generator handles the name, and the NPC Generator can spark a personality and background.

Are Virtual Dice Actually Random?

A common table question: can you trust a digital roller the way you trust physical dice? This roller uses the browser's built-in random number generator to pick each die result independently and uniformly — every face is equally likely on every roll, with no memory of previous rolls. That's mathematically fairer than most real dice, which carry tiny manufacturing biases. What a screen can't replace is the tactile ritual of the roll, which is why plenty of tables use physical dice for hero moments and a roller like this for the monsters, the bulk saves, and the DM's hidden checks.

From a Browser Roller to a Live Game

This roller lives entirely in your browser — nothing you roll is sent anywhere, and the history is stored locally. That's perfect for quick rolls and prep. But at the table, the interesting rolls are the ones everyone sees: the nat 20 that saves the party, the death save the whole table holds its breath for.

Anima runs this exact dice engine inside a live campaign session, where every roll is logged to the session, tied to the character who made it, and shared with your players in real time. Combine it with the Initiative Tracker for turn order and the how to run a D&D session guide for the rest of the table craft. For the full prep-to-play workflow, see the Dungeon Master Toolkit hub.

Beyond the roller

Rolling dice is free. Rolling them in a live game with your party is the point.

This roller lives in your browser. Anima puts the same dice engine inside a real campaign — every roll logged to the session, shared with your players in real time, tied to the character who rolled it.

  • Run live sessions where every roll streams to your players' screens instantly
  • Attach rolls to characters, initiative, and the encounter they happened in
  • Keep a per-campaign roll log — no more "wait, what did you get?"
